Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Starting Tuesday, October 28th, The Shepherd Center Central of Kansas City will be facilitating a six week series of caregiver support classes at Villa Ventura from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. These classes are free to the community and are designed to support anyone who has the responsibility of providing the primary care and support to a loved one. Providing caregiving support while working is particularly challenging. If you employ or work with someone who is a caregiver, please pass along this class outline and information. It is our goal to help provide critical caregiving support to the unsung heroes of our community– caregivers.

This course will update your knowledge on cutting-edge treatments and interventions to help you best care for clients with Parkinson's disease and their families. RNs, LPNs, social workers, counselors, registered dieticians and respiratory therapists will earn 4.5 contact hours. ACHAs will earn 4.5 (RC).

Darcy Bearden owner of Beardens Stained Glass and Susan Wiens, a glass artist living with Parkinsons, have create an art glass class for people with Pd.

Ever think you could work with colored art glass to produce lively, colorful projects--with a sense of "YES I CAN!" Well, we are going to teach you how! Learn how to cut the glass into your own designs, attach it, use of a kiln (oven)--all aspects of the "How's and Why's of Glass." Each class will have a project, usually completed in one session--a fish, a nightlite, keyrings, a votive holder, a frame, etc. There will be a small fee associated with the project usually in the $10-15 range.
